It's not what you play, it's how you play
In yoga, we’re taught that the pause between breaths is sacred. The gap between stimulus and response. A space where you can find clarity and mental stability. A place of not doing and not needing. Suspended. Hovering. A moment of calm.
I believe that’s also true of creativity.
There’s a sacred space between idea and final product. Unlike breaths, this gap can take days, months, years, or even a lifetime. It’s the time that we play with an idea, experiment, allow imagination and possibilities to run free. In this space, we use our intuition and our experiences to discover something new. It compounds, new ideas that can only exist because of the ones before.
This is the space between, where magic lies.

A Royal Adventure
I’d been struggling for a while with my writing. Not the writing per say, but I have two completed sci-fi novels sitting on my drive, and I had no idea what to do with them. I dipped into the slog of querying agents and publishers despite reservations. The reports, articles, and social media I read on trad publishing did not fill me with enthusiasm. Things like how hard it is to land a deal, the lack of control, the molasses timelines, and daunting contracts. I know that getting a trad pub is considered the height of success, but I’ve been grappling with what success means to me, and the trade-off for that success.

Letting go of an Old Nemesis
