(A Space Mystery)

It’s been 300 years since The Great Eviction. The Digital Intelligence Collective (aka DIC) had stuffed humanity into fully stocked, super smart space ships, then pointed us to a planet across the galaxy and told us to piss off and never come back.

Whoosh forward ten generations. Good came of our eviction. War and violence became impractical. It’s been a century since government had to shoot a blood-thirsty evil-doer into the Black Hole. Non-violent crime, however, persisted because some people will always be shit magnets. Which is where we come in. The Galactic Retrieval Agency is a respected government agency up for hire. We retrieve stolen, misplaced, or otherwise absconded pets, treasures, or sentimental trash with as little fuss as possible. I’m Bronwyn Ash, Galactic Retrieval Agent. My AI dog Link and I always sniff it out, scoop it up, and bring it home.

Almost always. There was this one gig… landed me in a mess of conspiracies, freaky crystals, and my missing twin at the center of it all. Plus, and this pains me to no end, a murder. An actual murder right in front of me. First in three generations. When an unidentifiable, charming stranger appeared, suggesting we team up to catch the killer, retrieve my package, and save my twin, a skeptical person might have refused. But I’m an optimist and this stranger was too delicious a mystery to deny. Funny how one stupid decision can change the course of history.
